A Wedding and a Swim Lesson

This past Sunday we went to a wedding of some friends of ours. The wedding was beautiful and we had a great time hanging out with our friends. The mother of the groom is a good friend of mine and I offered to make the wedding cake. I made marble cupcakes (groom liked chocolate and bride liked vanilla) with cream cheese frosting and made some chocolate butterflies for decorations. Here are some pictures of my adorable Riley in his Hawaiian shirt!

Today was the first day of Daddy and Riley swim lessons at CalTech. Riley loves the water so we thought he would love going to swim lessons. He had a great time splashing around, playing with his toys, and "surfing" on his kickboard! Daddy had just as much fun!

A Year Ago Today...

...our beautiful little boy was born. What a difference a year has made. We celebrated his special day with some friends at Chuck E. Cheese. He was once again spoiled!

First Haircut, First Kid's Meal, and First Birthday Party!

This past month has been a month of firsts......

It took awhile for Riley's hair to come in and when it finally did, it came in weird patches. We took Riley to the Yellow Balloon for his first haircut to even things out. He had a great time flirting with the other customers and loved the yellow balloon he got after his haircut!

Riley is quite adventuresome when it comes to trying new foods. If you put anything near his mouth he'll eat it! After his haircut we decided to go to Chili's for some lunch. Since neither Ben nor I were ordering something that he could eat we decided to get him his own meal off the kid's menu - mac and cheese and mash potatoes. Contrary to the picture below, he loved it and had a great time eating his lunch!
Riley always makes this face when he takes a bite of something for the first time (even if he has had it before and likes it!)

We celebrated Riley's First Birthday on June 28th in Fremont. Thanks to my sisters, cousins, and parents the party went off without a hitch. Riley loved seeing everyone and had a great time being passed from one person to the next. He was incrediably spoiled by everyone and we now have a whole toy store in our house! Thanks everyone for coming and spending the day with us. Here are some pictures from the big day!

Update

Riley's first birthday is right around the corner. It seems like he is doing something different every week. Here's an update on what he's been up to....
  • he's 17 1/2 pounds now
  • he's started crawling
  • he loves to pull himself up on everything
  • his bottom two teeth are coming in
  • he made his second trip to the ER last night (he was wheezing really bad so we had to go in to get him checked out - 6 1/2 hours later, a thorough suctioning and a couple of breathing treatments and we were good to go)

This past week Ben and Dre had their annual Angels weekend. Dre, Suzy, and Zen came to visit and we had a great time hanging out. The kids got along great. Steve also joined us for a couple of days and the boys got to go to a baseball game on Saturday and Monday. To celebrate Father's Day we went to Long Beach and went to the aquarium for the kids and then to Gladstones for dinner. We always love our yearly Angels get-together but it's going to be weird next year when we aren't living in LA anymore and we'll be doing our Anaheim get togethers in a hotel.

I know this has nothing to do with the post but this picture is of Riley with soon-to-be dad, Jethro, at their baby shower a couple of weekends ago. I love that they are both tilting their heads! For some reason, we only got a picture of the dad-to-be and none of the main attraction - mom-to-be and baby.

A Trip to Monterey.......

Since Ben was giving a talk at a conference in Monterey Riley and I decided to tag-a-long. We drove up to Fremont on Friday, celebrated an early Father's Day with my family, and then headed to Monterey on Ben's birthday. We spent the day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and then spent the next couple of days at Asilomar Conference Center. Here are some pics of our trip...
